Is the water safe in West Virginia after the chemical spill in Elk River? In the picture to the left is from a resident of the affected area posted on Instagram.

He writes, “So after flushing my pipes twice, at 3 times the amount of time recommended, and almost a week later my tap water looks like this… Not to mention the licorice smell is extremely strong. Sorry, but the water company cannot tell me my water is safe!”

His testimony surely lines up with the report from the Washington Post, “Residents in the area quickly noticed a strange licorice-like odor, and some 300,000 people in nine counties were advised not to drink the water”

I find this story close to home.  I travel through Charleston, West Virginia whenever I drive to Columbus, Ohio coming from Richmond, VA several times a year.

Charleston is usually a place where I would stop to fill up with gas and grab a bite to eat. I also have family in Charleston, so I have a great deal of concern for the residents.

Here is a screenshot of a text message I received on Sunday from my cousin that lives there.

Clearly my cousin Jo Jo does not trust whatever is being told to the citizens of Charleston.  I don’t blame him. It should be clear now more than ever that we can’t go by what we are told.  It’s best to use your gut-instinct and good ol’ common sense.

To put this into perspective, imagine the water throughout the entire city in which you live RIGHT NOW was contaminated. You couldn’t wash dishes, wash your hands, wash your butt, boil it to drink, brush your teeth, etc.  Over 300,000 people need fresh water.  So let’s make sure we pray for them in Charleston, WV.
