J. Cole has been one of the few rappers on the front line standing up for injustice in the trenches with the people from Ferguson to New York.
This was one the most compelling performances I’ve ever seen J. Cole do. His new album is called, “2014 Forest Hills Drive” which is available now.
The song he performs is not on his album. “Be Free” is passionate, relevant, honest and poetic.
Check out this awesome performance of J. Cole performing “Be Free” on David Letterman
The next day J. Cole stops by New York’s Power 105 with Angie Martinez to discuss his performance and other issues regarding America.
When Angie says, “you’re depressing me again” (27:54), is a representation of many people not only in our culture but in America today that do not want to hear the truth. As a radio personality, I love and admire Angie, but I hear those same words from people that may listen to my show and will see my posts on other social media outlets. I post my interviews and shows on my YouTube channel, but people are afraid of the truth.
We must conform to the truth, the truth doesn’t conform to us. One day sooner or later, we all in the U.S. will face some of the things J. Cole is mentioning in this interview. This interview is excellent on so many levels.
I admire the growth and maturity of Cole. Salute to J. Cole for being a voice in this younger generation of hip hop!
