Recently an old interview of Jay Z has surfaced on YouTube. The interview takes place around 2006 when he was the President of Def Jam. The line of questioning will really give perspective of what was going on in Hip Hop at the time.

For example, this was when Jim Jones was going at Jay. Questions regarding his decisions as an artist and being the President of Def Jam.

They even asked about LL Cool J and the limited success of the release of his album as well as questions about DMX. More on DMX down below, but during this interview, there was point when when the questions was asked, ” what was the best line you ever wrote?”

His response was a line in Can I Live and the song D-Evil’s which is what caught my attention.  I posted a comment on YouTube to ask if anyone caught what Jay Z said about D-Evils? Jay Z said, “that whole story in D-Evils is so serious”. The question and his response begins at 13:07.

If you haven’t heard the song “D’evils”, or read the lyrics, check out this video.

Jay-Z – D’Evils (With Lyrics!)

This is a video when DMX was in the studio with Tyrese a few years ago. DMX goes on about Jay Z having no soul and that he’s talented but does it all for the money.
